Our Team

WB Shiels was established in early 2015 by Chris Waugh-Bacchus and Evan Shiels. Between them, they have more than forty years experience at the cutting edge of MEP design.

The team are based at our central London studio under the watchful eye of Practice Manager, Carly McIntyre.

Our MEP designers are our engine, their design output is our product. Leading from the front, and very much aware that ‘good leaders don’t create followers, they create more leaders’, are Evan, Caroline and Chris.

Chris Waugh-Bacchus, Director at WB Shiels

Chris Waugh-Bacchus

Director

A full Member of both the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) and of the Institution of Engineering Technology (IET), Chris was previously a founding Partner in a very successful and established M&E design consultancy. His keen interest in architecture drives his desire to see Building Services Engineering evolve into a more creative and inclusive function, contributing to design rather than detracting from it.

Work aside, Chris is a keen skier and a Tough Mudder!

Evan Shiels, Director at WB Shiels

Evan Shiels

Director

Evan is a Chartered Engineer with fifteen years’ experience with major International consultancy practices. His broad technical knowledge and problem solving ability fuels his motivation, and his eye for detail is behind the numerous innovative schemes he has developed in conjunction with architects and designers alike.

At home, Evan is a busy father of three. All dreams of completing an Ironman have long faded, but he still enjoys the odd ride on his bike.

Caroline Stassen, Director at WB Shiels

Caroline Stassen

Director

Caroline is a highly qualified and experienced Chartered Engineer with an unusual background in Fine Art and Engineering. Caroline believes that building services installations have the potential to be bold and beautiful when exact engineering meets architectural creativity, thereby becoming an integrated feature of the design rather than a hidden necessity.

Caroline’s resourcefulness is put to good use when she is wild camping in the Scottish Highlands – her idea of heaven.

James Mugford, Associate Director at WB Shiels

James Mugford

Associate Director

James joined WB Shiels in 2015 with over 13 years’ experience within the Building Services industry. His experience covers projects from small fast-paced fit outs through to large scale infrastructure projects, spanning diverse sectors from airports, residential, hotels, offices to retail. It is the technical challenges which drive James – whether exploring innovative ways to integrate services into the architectural design or maximising energy efficiency.

Outside of work, James is usually out with his Lab Woody in Windsor Great Park or enjoying a pint at one of the surrounding pubs.
