The Gaslight

Refurbishment, extension and regeneration of a 1928 six-storey commercial building in the heart of Fitzrovia’s bustling restaurant district. The building was originally constructed for the Gas Light & Coke Co. and later becoming the headquarters of the British Film Institute.

Recognising the iconic nature of the building, the project retained the original red brick neo-Georgian façade. A modern glazed rear extension and tiered courtyard gardens almost double the building’s usable space both inside and out.

The refurbished building was designed to accommodate a street level restaurant, a basement gym and four levels of multi-tenant office accommodation with maximum flexibility in mind.
